The Deepfakes Dilemma: How Broadcasters Must Manage Deepfakes Disinformation During Election 2020
In this session, McAfee CTO Steve Grobman and NBC News’s Jareen Imam will discuss the potential of deepfakes to mislead broadcasters despite their best efforts to ensure the integrity and legitimacy of news making videos. The session will recommend approaches for broadcasters evaluating and validating the authenticity of such videos so they can be sure to get the Election 2020 news stories right. Election 2020 brings with it a variety of critical concerns related to election security and voter disinformation. Artificial Intelligence and related technologies are making it possible for a surprisingly broad field of potential bad actors to create deepfake videos portraying candidates appearing to say and do things they never did. Such bogus video footage could be released in the days and hours leading up to Election Day on November 3rd to damage candidates’ reputations and influence voter behavior.
