Editor’s Picks: Larry Jordan’s New Product Highlights at NAB Show New York
By Larry Jordan, LarryJordan.com
When you hear “NAB Show” the first thought that comes to mind is: “What’s New?” The Show is legendary for new products, new ideas, new ways of working, and, best of all, new friends.
NAB Show New York, though smaller, is no different. With over 250 Exhibitors, there will be no shortage of “new.” New products that haven’t been shown at an NAB event before, or new products that haven’t been shown on the East Coast.
Over the last several days, I’ve sifted through hundreds of documents from a variety of companies describing what they are bringing to the Show. While there are dozens of new products targeted at content distribution, I focused on new products for content creators, especially the individual media creator or small production company.
Here are what I consider the highlights, listed in alphabetical order and based on materials provided by each company.
AJA Video Systems
(Booth 836)
AJA will be showing their new OG-ColorBox. This powerful openGear box gives professionals the ability to color correct specialty cameras to processing camera Log and transforming SDR to/from HDR in real-time, and beyond. Especially useful for live events, this supports 4K/UHD and HD HDR workflows up to 60p with 12G-SDI connectivity. Professionals can easily load LUTs, convert SDR/HDR with processing pipelines including AJA Color, NBCU, and ACES, or purchase licenses for color processing options like ORION-CONVERT, BBC HLG LUTs, and Colorfront.
Avid Technology, Inc.
(Booth 654)
Avid will be showing Avid Huddle, their competitor to Frame.io. Huddle provides secure, high-quality video review and approval. It streamlines content delivery by gathering real-time feedback from remote team members using familiar Avid tools, no matter your location. Like all good collaboration software, Avid Huddle accelerates the review and approval process from anywhere, on any device.
BrandedMics
(Booth 564)
BrandedMics will introduce the first sustainable windscreen for microphones. BrandedMics specializes in custom windscreens in a variety of colors, forms and branding. This new offering now offers an option other than plastic foam.
Facilis Technology
(Booth 910)
Facilis will introduce FASTCache Automatic Client Caching. FASTCache is designed to allow remote content creators to have fast access to project data. With FASTCache, a simple VPN connection or their optimized WANLink remote access to Facilis UB storage systems, enables remote editors and producers to view content as if it were local to their home workstation.
Caching algorithms capture partial files for playback acceleration, or the user can pre-cache an unlimited amount of data to have the whole project online, but never lose access of new data that enters the facility.
GB Labs
(Booth 843)
GB Labs will show NebulaNAS, a cloud storage system developed for media and production professionals. Providing a NAS-like ease of use, editors and artists can see files immediately, access data quickly, and collaborate globally as if they were in the same location. The system provides detailed analytics and audit reporting maintained by the system. Organizations can even add local storage to provide media acceleration and cache-level support for clusters of users. It also offers 256-bit AES file encryption, user access controls, file locking, and distributed use of cloud servers, which spreads data across thousands of servers.
Indipro Tools Corp.
(Booth 752)
Indipro Tools will show their 99Wh Kratos II V-Mount Li-Ion Battery. Its multiple outputs provide long-lasting power to all your equipment. With a 14.4V 10A D-Tap output, two DC barrel outputs (12 and 8.4 VDC), one USB-A output, and one USB-C input/output, this battery also features a user-friendly design with a 1/4″-20 thread for easy rigging, a battery capacity and status display, and an illumination light for low-light operation.
