SDVI’s Rally Access Workstation

Q&A Series

SDVI’s Rally Access Workstation, winner of a 2024 Product of the Year award, is getting rave reviews from customers, so we asked Simon Adler, SVP, Americas at SDVI, to share some details about the product so that you can be prepared to see it at NAB Show New York.

Tell me about SDVI Corp. Rally Access Workstation. What challenges is it intended to solve?

In most supply chains that prepare content for distribution, there are times a human operator needs to check, correct, or change something in the content. They may remove ad breaks, check instances of black or silence, cut out culturally sensitive material, etc. With Rally Access Workstation, operators are able to access the popular Adobe Premiere Pro editing application as well as the content that needs attention, all in the cloud. As a result, operators don’t need a local workstation, and content needn’t be copied from the cloud to a local machine. As a fully managed cloud solution, Rally Access Workstation instead spins up a licensed Adobe workstation, fills the bin, and presents time-based metadata in a panel to guide the operator/editor. The solution saves time and avoids cloud egress fees, and it can scale in an instant to support any number of editors.

What kind of feedback have you heard from customers?

Customers like how well integrated Rally Access Workstation is with their existing Rally managed media supply chains because now they don’t have to manage physical workstations and move content between the cloud and editor workstations. Everything stays in the cloud, and spinning up an edit session with Adobe Premiere Pro is now as simple as accepting a workorder.

How do you see Rally Access Workstation fitting into the market?

Rally Access Workstation is an extension of the SDVI Rally media supply chain platform, and the tight integration between the two products makes media operations departments more efficient and responsive. Supply chain editing is often necessary to make content compliant with local or regional laws. Edits are also often needed to either add or remove ad breaks, depending on the target distribution platform. Rally Access Workstation makes it easy for supply chain editors working anywhere to understand what work needs to be done (from a Rally workorder) and to spin up an edit session in a familiar edit environment to get their work completed.

Will NAB Show New York attendees be able to see a demo of Rally Access Workstation in person?

Because Rally Access Workstation is a fully cloud based solution, we will be able to demonstrate it at NAB Show New York.

Attendees will see how a workorder is created in Rally, as well as the information that is included in a workorder. They will also see how easy it is to accept a workorder, which in turn spins up an edit session with Adobe Premiere Pro running on a cloud-based virtual workstation. In that edit session, the content needed to complete the workorder will be preloaded in the bin, and any metadata that points to areas in need of attention will be presented in a panel within the edit interface.
