Excellence in Sustainability Awards

Launched in 2023, this awards program recognizes individuals, companies, and products/services for outstanding innovations in media technology that promote sustainability and foster economic and social development.
Judged by an independent panel of experts, award winners will be chosen in each category based on the criteria defined for each category.
The NAB Show Excellence in Sustainability Awards will be presented during a special ceremony on the Main Stage at NAB Show on April 14, 2024. Before the awards, join us for: Exploring HBO’s True Detective Night Country: A Discussion on Sustainability in Modern Production, an insightful discussion that explores the intersection of the acclaimed television series HBO’s True Detective Night Country and the modern principles of sustainability in production. The event will feature an exclusive interview with Executive Producer Mari Jo Winkler-Ioffreda, offering unique insights into the show’s approach to sustainability. The session will discuss the innovative methods employed by True Detective Night Country to promote sustainability throughout its production process, including renewable energy usage, waste reduction initiatives, and the incorporation of green technologies in filmmaking.

Champion in Sustainability
This award acknowledges individuals that have consistently demonstrated leadership in sustainability. It recognizes those who have a proven track record of implementing sustainable practices and inspiring others.
Who should apply?
Candidates who are at least 35 years of age from enterprises, including non-profit organizations.
Community & Social Impact
Focusing on the broader societal impact of sustainability initiatives, this category acknowledges projects or practices that benefit local communities, promote social responsibility, and improve the well-being of employees, stakeholders and society.
Who should apply?
Enterprises, including non-profit organizations.
Emerging Talent in Sustainability
Recognizing the importance of engaging and inspiring the next generation, this all-new award category acknowledges the contributions of young professionals or emerging talent who are making a significant impact in advancing sustainability within the industry.
Who should apply?
Candidates who are younger than 35 years of age from enterprises, including non-profit organizations.
Green Production Practices
Focusing on sustainability in content creation, this all-new category rewards projects or practices that prioritize eco-friendly production methods, such as sustainable set design, green production and reduced environmental impact during content creation.
Who should apply?
Content creators such as broadcasters and production companies.
Leadership in Sustainability
This award recognizes an organization that has launched or completed a sustainability initiative. This award rewards a company that is taking critical steps to transform its business in line with a sustainable future. Entries must include disclosures that support a sustainable and systemic transformation in alignment with the Paris Agreement and the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals (SDG).
Who should apply?
Enterprises of any size, including non-profit organizations.
Sustainable Product or Service
This category recognizes innovative technologies, products or solutions that significantly improve sustainability or provide sustainable product or service alternatives, addressing a critical environmental challenge. Examples are, but not limited to, include energy-efficient broadcasting equipment, sustainable data storage solutions, battery technology, or eco-friendly media production tools or packaging. The product or service must be available as of 2024.
Who should apply?
Small, medium, or large enterprises, including non-profit organizations. Small enterprise is up to 100 employees; Medium enterprise is 101 – 999 employees; Large enterprise is more than 1000 employees.
